I waited patiently at the Avenue of the Baobabs, knowing the famous sunset shots had been done a thousand times before. Then these young herders appeared with their zebu cattle, splashing through the shallow waters for their midday drink. This is the Madagascar tourists rarely see—the living, breathing daily rhythm that has continued beneath these ancient sentinels for generations. The children waved and smiled, completely unfazed by my camera, their connection to this extraordinary landscape so natural and unposed.
